Preliminary investigations carried out by officials of the Safety Commission, who swiftly arrived at the scene, revealed that the site’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer was attending to the injured operator during the critical moments and was therefore unavailable for immediate questioning.
The commission has engaged with the Project Manager, Hein Coerzer, and the Company Secretary, Ndidi Uchechukwu, who indicated that all relevant documents concerning the crane and ongoing operations are located at the company’s head office.
The company has been instructed to submit all required documentation for a comprehensive review.
Following the incident, the Director General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, ordered the immediate sealing of the construction site and issued an abatement notice to mitigate any further risks to workers on-site.
Mojola emphasized that the safety of lives remains paramount and reiterated the government’s zero tolerance for negligence in adhering to safety protocols.
He extended condolences to the family of the deceased and assured the public of a thorough investigation.
“The Safety Commission remains fully committed to preventing a recurrence of such tragic incidents through the strict enforcement of safety regulations,” Mojola said, adding that further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
