A 16-year-old boy, Ayibanua Timipre, has tragically taken his own life in the Kpansia area of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Reports gathered by PUNCH Metro indicate that the incident occurred on Saturday when Timipre’s lifeless body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his father’s home.
Timipre, from the Igbomotoru community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, was reportedly discovered with the rope still attached to the fan.
While the exact cause of his actions remains unclear, some online reports suggest it could be linked to alleged punishment by his parents for stealing N27,000, although this claim has not been officially verified.
The teenager, an apprentice learning mobile phone repairs, had just celebrated his 16th birthday on Sunday, February 9, 2025.
After the discovery, police officers were called to the scene, and the body was recovered. Bayelsa State Police Command spokesperson, Musa Mohammed, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation was underway.
“A 16-year-old boy committed suicide in Yenagoa. The investigation is ongoing,” Mohammed said. When asked about the theft allegation, he responded, “I’m not aware of this. The investigation is still ongoing.”
This incident follows another suspected suicide, reported on February 13, 2025, involving 19-year-old secondary school graduate Sunday Moses, who was found dead, hanging from a tree in Afio Village, Odeda Local Government Area, Ogun State.
