2026 WCQ: Super Eagles coach Chelle names two players who could start against Rwanda

Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles’ head coach, has named two players who could feature in Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier against Rwanda on Saturday.

The Malian stated that it would not be surprising to see Felix Agu and Benjamin Fredrick in his starting lineup against Rwanda and that both players deserve to be in the team.

Both players made their debuts for Nigeria in the Unity Cup against Jamaica in May.

Their performances at the Unity Cup led to them being considered for the World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.

Chelle told a prematch press conference on Friday that he has his gameplan already sketched.

“I have a plan in my head, I need to think about this game. Every player in this team can play at every moment – during the game, before the game, after the game.

“They deserve to be here, they deserve to play this game and, like the captain said, this is an honour for them.

“We need to think about our starters for tomorrow and this is why we spoke together with the players,” Chelle told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

Both players could be sitting on the bench as their positions are highly contested for.

For Felix Agu, he will battle the likes of Ola Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel and Bruno Onyemaechi for a place at fullback, while Benjamin Fredrick plays the same position as captain Troost-Ekong, Bassey and Chigozie Awaziem.
