2027: Group urges former President Jonathan to re-contest for Presidency

From Desmond Mgboh, Kano

A political group,”Bring Back our Goodluck” has launched a special appeal to former President Goodluck Jonathan to re- contest the Presidency in 2027.

The group, which launched its Northwest campaign in Kano, said that the return of the former leader was the only path to go if the country was to exit from the present slide occasioned by the 10-year misrule of the late President Muhammadu Buhari and the incumbent President Bola Tinubu, both of the All Progressives Congress.

Speaking during a press conference held at the Aminu Kano Center for Democracy, Research and Training , Mumbayya House, Kano State, the National Coordinator of the group , Grema Kyari, also urged the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Amechi and Nasir el Rufai as well as other aspirants to the Presidency to shelve their respective ambitions in the interest of Nigeria.

The group argued that recent global trends have justified the need for strong and good leaders to return to office after they had lost their elections, citing the comeback bids of Donald Trump in the United States of America and that of John Mahama of Ghana as examples.

The group stated that former President Jonathan remained one single candidate who could comfortably defeat President Tinubu at the polls, pointing out that he possessed the profile, recognition, track record and deep network of allies to democratically confront and unseat the incumbent.

They noted that the former President is also a peacemaker and an architect of the last Nigerian economic boom, pointing out that under his watch, Nigeria’s economy performed its best in decades.

They contrasted his performance with Tinubu’s performance, which they regretted was a symbol of pains, insecurity, deepening poverty, widespread hunger, collapsing businesses and skyrocketing cost of goods and services. End.
