Imo: Manhunt for gunmen in Ebonyi lawmaker’s escorts’ murder

From George Onyejiuwa, Owerri

The Imo State Police Command, under Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma, has launched a manhunt for the gunmen responsible for the killing of two police escorts attached to the Majority Leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Kingsley Ikoro (Afikpo North-West), on Sunday, August 3, along the Okigwe axis of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Road in Imo State.

The incident occurred when one of the vehicles in Ikoro’s entourage developed a mechanical fault, forcing the two policemen to remain at the scene while the lawmaker and others continued their journey. The stranded officers were subsequently ambushed and killed on the spot by unidentified gunmen.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, stated on Monday, August 4, 2025, that there is “no hiding place” for the perpetrators. “The Commissioner of Police has ordered a manhunt for the fleeing killers of the cops. Tactical teams of the command are already combing the bushes around the scene of the crime to apprehend the suspects and make them face the full consequences for their unlawful action. I can assure you that the killers have no hiding place because we will get them,” Okoye said.

He further disclosed that the bodies of the deceased officers, who “paid the supreme price,” have been evacuated to a morgue, and investigations are ongoing.
