Ekiti 2026: I’m not a stooge, I’m in the race to win – PDP guber aspirant Oluyede

From Priscilla Ediare, Ado-Ekiti

Dr. Wole Oluyede, the governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2026 election in Ekiti State, has urged members of his party, the people of the state and the general public to disregard an online publication by a group, known as “Ekiti Kete Collective” that labelled him a stooge and also advised the PDP not to give him the ticket of the party in the November primary election.

Oluyede described the report as untrue, baseless, unfounded and misleading and urged the authors of such report to stop indulging in peddling lies and falsehoods, instead, they should invest their time in reasonable ventures.

He also advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti to stop meddling in the affairs of the PDP but focus on how to resolve the crisis rocking the ruling party in the state.

This was contained in a statement by Oluyede’s Spokesperson, Gani Salau, and made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, capital of Ekiti State.

Salau said, “Dr Wole Oluyede frowned at the level of desperation and the poor tactics employed by the government of Biodun Oyebanji in the state since last week when Dr Wole Oluyede picked the nomination and expression of interest forms respectively.”

The statement read, “Ekiti APC is directly working with the office of the Political Adviser to the Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, tirelessly, having been disturbed seeing Oluyede becoming the flag bearer of the PDP which will be a disaster to them at the gubernatorial election. How do you say or conclude that Dr Wole Oluyede is not a member of the PDP in Ekiti State and is this not laughable?

“We had it on good authority that immediately Dr Wole Oluyede picked the expression of interest and nomination forms last week Friday, an emergency meeting was held later in the evening at the Ekiti Government House having some notable stalwarts of the APC in attendance with the Special Adviser, Political, contemplating on options to stop Oluyede from flying the ticket of the PDP in the forthcoming gubernatorial election because of his bright chances in winning the election.

“At the said meeting, several options were suggested and weighed which they would want to display and implement before and after the PDP primary. Our advice to them is that, they should concentrate on the internal crisis rocking the Ekiti APC and leave us alone as we prepare for our party’s primary which will eventually have Dr Wole Oluyede as the candidate of the party.”

The statement added, “Dr Wole Oluyede, on Friday, picked his nomination and expression of interest forms, and this has been giving the APC a serious concern making the party to be working on several permutations on how to make sure Oluyede doesn’t fly the ticket of the party by making use of faceless groups.”

It would be recalled that Oluyede defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the PDP last year in Ikere-Ekiti, his country home, making him a bonafide member of the party, and also qualifies him to contest for any position on the platform of the PDP.
