Abducted Afenifere Youth Leader Regains Freedom

The abducted National President of the Afenifere Youth Council, Eniola Olajuni, has regained his freedom after spending 12 days in captivity.

His release was confirmed on Saturday by the National Secretary of the Youth Council, Biodun Aderohunmu, in a brief WhatsApp message stating, “He has been released.”

Olajuni was kidnapped on February 17, 2025, while traveling to Abuja for a meeting. His captors initially demanded a ransom of N100 million and two tricycles in exchange for his release.

Following public outcry, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun deployed the Intelligence Response Team to secure Olajuni’s safe return. This decision came after a viral video showed the youth leader at gunpoint, pleading with Nigerians to assist in raising funds for his release.

Details regarding whether a ransom was paid or if security agencies facilitated his freedom remain unclear. However, his release brings relief to his family, supporters, and the wider Afenifere community.
