From Laide Raheem, Abeokuta

The senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, has called on the electorate to vote for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Princess Sola Elegbeji, in the House of Representatives by-election scheduled for Saturday, August 16.

Adeola, who made this call in a statement he personally signed and made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, declared that Elegbeji is “the right choice at the right time”.

The House of Representatives seat became vacant after the death of Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, otherwise known as ‘Ijaya’.

According to the senator, the late beloved lawmaker’s legacy of service, empowerment, and grassroots engagement remains deeply etched in the hearts of her constituents.

He, however, attested to the credentials of Princess Elegbeji as a capable hand to fill the vacant position, describing her as “an apostle of the progressive doctrines of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and a true scion of Remo Federal Constituency whose political philosophy is rooted in service, equity, and enlightenment”.

He noted that the APC candidate is an embodiment of continuity and capacity, saying her choice is not just about winning a seat but securing the future of Remo Federal Constituency.

Adeola further pointed out that she will speak with clarity, legislate with courage, and serve with compassion.

“Princess Sola Elegbeji is not just a candidate—she is a continuation of a legacy. She has subscribed fully to the tenets of the Renewed Hope Agenda as championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Dapo Abiodun. Her emergence is a convergence of history, competence, and vision,” he added.

Senator Adeola, who is also the Senate Committee Chairman of Appropriations, emphasised that Elegbeji’s longstanding relationship with the late Hon. Onanuga was not merely political, but deeply collaborative.

“They shared a bond of purpose. Princess Elegbeji was a quiet force behind many of the constituency initiatives we now celebrate. Her pledge to expand the Remo Youth Skills Empowerment Programme is not a campaign promise—it is a personal mission,” he noted.

Adeola disclosed that Elegbeji’s candidacy has the nod and full backing of the Ogun State Caucus of the National Assembly, the party’s leadership, the strategic support of the Presidency, and the confidence of the state government.

“She is trusted by the party, respected by the people, and prepared for the task ahead. Her understanding of federal legislative dynamics, her grassroots appeal, and her unwavering loyalty to progressive ideals make her the ideal representative for Remo at this time.

“Party stakeholders have hailed her candidacy as a unifying factor. Princess Elegbeji is a bridge between the legacy of Awolowo, the transformative energy of Tinubu, and the developmental vision of Governor Abiodun.

The senator, however, called on all APC members, youth organisations, women’s groups, and community leaders in Remo North, Sagamu, and Ikenne to rally behind her candidacy, urging them to honour the memory of Hon. Onanuga by entrusting her legacy to capable hands.

“This election is a defining moment. Princess Sola Elegbeji is the woman for the job. I stand firmly with her,” Adeola concluded in the statement.
