The Managing Director of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC), Ms. Usoro Akpabio, has called for collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure the commission’s financial activities are firmly guided by compliance with extant financial laws.

Akpabio made the call on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the EFCC Chairman, Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

She said the meeting was aimed at building common ground to guarantee that SSDC’s operations adhere to the highest standards of financial integrity and transparency from inception, while praising the EFCC’s role in safeguarding Nigeria’s economy.

While commending the reforms introduced under Olukoyede’s leadership, Akpabio declared SSDC’s zero-tolerance policy towards financial crimes, leakages and malpractices, saying, “We are committed to aligning our activities with the EFCC’s stringent standards for financial compliance right from the outset.”

Going further, she explained that the SSDC’s mandate is to drive economic development across the South-South and formally sought the EFCC’s collaborative support to ensure all internal and external financial activities of the Commission comply with national laws. Specifically, she requested specialised cybercrime training for the commission’s staff and partnership in public awareness campaigns against financial crimes.

Olukoyede further disclosed that the EFCC Academy is fully certified to provide nationwide training and urged SSDC to remain committed to uplifting lives and entrenching good governance in the South-South region.
