Sokoto State witnessed another devastating fire outbreak on Saturday as the popular Kara Market was engulfed in flames. The fire, which started in the early hours of the day, rapidly spread across the market, destroying numerous shops and properties.
The exact cause of the blaze remains unknown, but emergency responders, including firefighters, were actively working to contain the situation. Meanwhile, traders and residents near the market scrambled to evacuate their goods and belongings, fearing that the inferno would spread further.
Efforts to speak with the General Manager of the market were unsuccessful as he was preoccupied with efforts to coordinate emergency responses and prevent criminal activities amid the chaos. Security personnel were strategically stationed across the market to deter looters and maintain order.
The incident has raised concerns over fire safety measures in Sokoto markets, especially as the state enters the Ramadan season, a period of heightened commercial activity.
