Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has been announced as the lead cast member in the upcoming Hollywood adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling novel Children of Blood and Bone.” The film, produced by Lucasfilm—the studio behind the Star Wars franchise—will feature an all-star cast that includes Cynthia Erivo, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, and others.

Set in an African fantasy kingdom, the movie follows a young woman’s quest to reclaim her people’s stolen magic. Production is currently underway, with a release date scheduled for 2027.

Ayra Starr’s involvement marks a significant milestone in her rising career. She recently became the first Nigerian woman to achieve an RIAA Diamond certification, thanks to her hit single “Santa.” The song, which combines influences of Afrobeats and reggaeton, features Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro and Jamaican singer Tarik Johnston, also known as Rvssian. “Santa” earned the certification after selling over 10 million units in the United States within the Latino market, a notable achievement for an African artist.
