Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, has hailed Nigeria’s Super Falcons over their 10th triumph at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), describing the victory as a moment of “immense national pride.”

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, on Sunday, he praised the Super Falcons for once again lifting the continental trophy in grand style.

Nigeria defeated host nation Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final at the Rabat Olympic Stadium on Saturday, reclaiming the title in a pulsating match that showcased grit, flair, and the signature dominance of the nine-time African champions. The win adds a 10th star to the team’s continental record, reaffirming their status as the most successful national team in African women’s football history.

“I congratulate the Super Falcons and indeed all Nigerians on our team’s historic victory at the 2025 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women’s Africa Cup of Nations,” the Deputy Senate President said.

“This victory is a testament to our players’ resilience, talent and unyielding national spirit. This is a moment of immense pride and celebration for our nation,” he added.

Barau, who is also the founder of the Barau Football Club, which was recently promoted to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after a stellar performance at the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 playoffs, commended the team’s consistency and discipline throughout the tournament.

“The Super Falcons have again proven that Nigeria remains dominant in African women’s football. Their determination, discipline, and passion throughout the tournament are commendable. It inspires a new generation of Nigerian girls to believe in the power of their dreams,” he said.

He also extended commendation to the coaching crew, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), and all stakeholders who played a role in the team’s preparation and success.

“They have given us joy, and it is our duty as a nation to match their sacrifices with adequate support and infrastructure. This is not just a sports victory, it is a cultural and national triumph,” Barau said.
