Champions League: Arteta hails two Arsenal players after win over Athletic

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, praised Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard after their 2-0 Champions League win over Athletic Club on Tuesday night.

The two strikers combined twice to give Arsenal the full three points in Bilbao.

Arteta’s men did not have one of their best games, with Viktor Gyokeres spurning their best chances and Eberechi Eze ineffectual on the left wing.

Martinelli and Trossard were then introduced late in the second half for Gyokeres and Eze.

Trossard sent Martinelli through to make it 1-0, before Martinelli returned the favoure for the Belgian.

“Unbelievable, both him and Leo. They have very different qualities to Ebs and Viktor,” Arteta told TNT Sports.

“I look at them and immediately they were ready, they were connecting with each other.

“I’m very pleased because I told them: ‘Guys, most of the time you’re going to be more important, so the quality of the minutes is going to be critical’. And I’m very pleased because it’s going to help us.”
