Christantus Uche, who could leave Getafe at the end of the transfer window, showcased an impressive performance at Balaídos. Despite the absences in the squad, the Azulones achieved a significant victory.
The only player making an impact for the home side was Iago Aspas, who gave it his all but was consistently challenged by Getafe’s goalkeeper, David Soria. In contrast, the standout performer for the visitors was Christantus Uche, whose tremendous display earned him three points for his team. The Nigerian striker is currently in the spotlight for a possible exit this summer, as Ángel Torres needs to balance the books and register new signings that had to watch the first game from home. If this was his last game for Getafe, he could not have chosen a better send-off.
Just before halftime, Getafe’s best chance came from Uche, whose shot was deflected by Radu, who was fortunate to see the ball skim past the post. This was an indication of the great second half that the Nigerian was about to deliver.
As soon as the players returned from the locker room, Uche outpaced Marcos Alonso with a long ball, pushing down the byline to set up Adrián Liso for his first La Liga goal.
When Celta Vigo appeared to be gaining momentum and the match felt like it might end in a draw, Uche struck to break the deadlock. Once again, with another long ball, he outmaneuvered Javi Rodríguez and Yoel Lago before skillfully finishing past Radu. Uche capped off the scoring with a goal of sheer power and quality. From that moment on, Getafe focused on wasting time, while Celta showed signs of frustration.
There was virtually nothing left to play for in the final twenty minutes, as Getafe didn’t want to push forward, and Celta didn’t know how to respond. Bordalás outsmarted Giráldez in the season opener, and Uche’s impressive performance further amplified his value as the transfer window approaches.
