From Ndubuisi Orji, Abuja
The deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has charged young persons to be focused on their goals and not to waste their youthful age.
Kalu, who spoke at the National Youth Entrepreneurship and Empowerment Summit (YEEP’25), in Abuja, charge young persons to leverage on their youthful energies and “unlock their potentials”.
The Summit, which was organized by a Non Governmental Organization ( NGO), Activate Success International Foundation, was geared towards fostering youth entrepreneurship and driving economic growth in Nigeria.
The deputy speaker, who spoke virtually, at the event, where over 50 youths received various forms of support ranging from N500, 000 to N1million, as well as sewing machines, promised to partner with the organizers to give select youths from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT).
He said ” start early in whatever you want to become. There will be distraction but be focused. Don’t waste your youthful age. If everyone here believes that they are blessed, then we have the energy of the youths that will transform this nation and that is what activating success is all about: to inspire and motivate to greater heights.
“Truly, this nation belongs to those who have the kind of energy that you have because of the power of your mind, the power of your innovative ability. Let’s invest it towards transforming our nation. The Renewed Hope Partners (RHP) with my office will partner with Activate Success International Foundation to give grants to selected youths from across the 36 States including the FCT. You will be having something from us”.
The founder of the group, Mrs. Love Idoko-Uloko, while speaking at the event, said that YEEP’s mission is to ensure that every Nigerian youth thrive in their entrepreneurial skills.
Idoko-Uloko stated that young people apart from being the future of the country, are also her greatest assets. She noted that with over 70 percent of Nigeria’s population under under the age of 35 years, the strength of the country lies in creativity, brilliance and resilience of the young population.
According to her, “In a country where over 53% of young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 35 are either unemployed or underemployed, the urgency of youth empowerment cannot be overstated. The consequences of untapped potential are far-reaching, not just economically, but socially and nationally.
“When young minds are disengaged, we create fertile ground for frustration, insecurity, and social unrest. But when they are equipped with skills, vision, and opportunity, they become builders of peace, engines of innovation, and pillars of national growth.”
