Edun unveils staff CNG buses, reintroduces monthly welfare to boost productivity

From Adanna Nnamani, Abuja

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to economic reform and institutional efficiency with the commissioning of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses for staff of the Federal Ministry of Finance and the reintroduction of monthly welfare provisions.

Speaking during a special staff engagement forum on Tuesday, July 22, in Abuja, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, said staff welfare and internal efficiency are critical to driving Nigeria’s macroeconomic transformation.

A statement issued by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Mohammed Manga, on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, quoted Edun saying, “This Ministry is the engine room of national transformation, and that engine must be well-fuelled.”

The new CNG buses, delivered under the Presidential Initiative on CNG, are part of efforts to enhance staff mobility and promote the transition to cleaner, more cost-efficient energy alternatives.

Edun noted that the deployment of the buses signals the government’s alignment with fiscal responsibility, operational transparency, and environmental sustainability.

Also present at the event was the Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on CNG, Barr Ismaeel Ahmed, who described the programme as a step towards mainstreaming cleaner transport across government institutions and stimulating local industrial value chains.
