EFCC Arrests Edo Governor’s Aide for Alleged Naira Abuse

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Kelly Okungbowa, also known as “Ebo Stone,” the suspended coordinator of the Edo State Public Safety Response Team (PSRT), over alleged abuse of the naira currency. The arrest occurred on March 17, 2025, following a viral video dated March 9, 2025, showing Okungbowa spraying and mutilating naira notes at a bar.

EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrest, stating that Okungbowa will face charges upon the completion of investigations.

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commended the EFCC for its swift action and urged a thorough investigation and prosecution in line with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act of 2007, which criminalizes the abuse of naira notes.

This incident highlights the EFCC’s commitment to enforcing currency regulations and addressing financial misconduct.
