Ekiti guber: Only PDP can dislodge Oyebanji, APC in 2026 – PDP aspirant Oluyede

From Priscilla Ediare, Ado-Ekiti

Ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State, a leading aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Wole Oluyede, has appealed to members of the party across the sixteen Local Government Areas of the state to remain resolute and committed to the party to secure victory at the poll.

The Australia-based medical doctor made the appeal in an enlarged meeting held in Ikere-Ekiti, capital of Ikere Local Government Area of the state, which was attended by party chieftains and leaders, who acknowledged Oluyede’s efforts and investment in reviving the party as well as preparing it for victory in the 2026 election.

Oluyede, in a statement by his spokesperson, Gani Salau, and made available to newsmen at the end of the meeting, solicited the unalloyed support of the party leaders and stakeholders to win at the primary election and at the general election to realise his desire to serve Ekiti people.

He urged members not to leave the PDP, stressing that the PDP remains the only opposition party in the state that can wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in next year’s poll.

“I remain a committed member and the best man to fly the ticket of the PDP to victory in the 2026 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State.

“I want to assure all party members that this is the only platform that we can use to defeat the APC and its candidate in this our dear state and, as you all know, I remain a formidable and leading gubernatorial aspirant in this party, and I promise to lead the party to victory in the 2026 election by the special grace of God.”

On the alleged defection of some PDP members to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), he said, “I have nothing against those that have defected to the ADC because our constitution makes it clear that there is freedom of association, but what is important for me is to win the forthcoming election and serve the people of Ekiti State under the PDP, and victory is certain.

“I was the candidate of the ADC in the 2022 gubernatorial election, so those that are in the party are my people, and I still have influence there, but I remain a gubernatorial aspirant under our party, the PDP, which I strongly hope to use as a platform to serve Ekiti people in 2026.

“I only want to inform that the ADC is a party for the 2027 general elections, and I want to advise our people to let us concentrate more on the gubernatorial election here so that we can be victorious.”

He thanked the leaders for attending the meeting and charged them to continue to mobilise for the success of the party in the state.
