The Rivers State Police Command has organized a capacity building lecture aimed at ensuring professionalism of its personnel.
State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, had organized the thought-provoking lecture, aimed at enhancing the capacity of officers and men, and promoting optimal performance and service delivery.
The lecture, which was a symbolic moment, was held at the Police Officers Mess, Port Harcourt, along with other resource persons drawn from the Police Management Team.
It featured a range of topics, designed to equip officers with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their roles.
Key topics covered Effective Management of Arms and Ammunition/Exhibits and Financial Resources delivered by Mrs. Inyam Ozioma, Assistant Director in the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation.
State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police, said the session provided insights into effective management of exhibits and financial resources by Police Officers.
She disclosed that at the lecture,the Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP (Dr.) Ahunanya Nnaed, O/C Medical, Rivers State Police Command, led a session on hypertension and stress management, highlighting the importance of officers’ well-being at all times through regular health checks.
On Administration of Criminal Justice and Legal Innovations, Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP Stephen Onwochei, O/C Legal, Rivers State Police Command, delivered a lecture on best practices in criminal justice administration, including the taking of confessional statements from suspect and its admissibility in court, case file compilation and the legal requirements for a comprehensive case file that is essential for effective case management and successful litigation.
Similarly, Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of Finance and Administration, DCP Samuel Etaifo-Erale, led the session on Orderly Room Trial Procedure.
The PPRO said the essence of the topic is to ensure officers are equipped to handle disciplinary proceedings effectively.
Iringe-Koko hinted that the lecture also highlighted recent developments, including the Inspector-General of Police’s commitment to exiting the Nigeria Police Force from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
According to her, the Police capacity building lecture underscores the Command’s commitment to professional development with the Police Force better positioned to serve members of the public and uphold the rule of law.
