The Enugu State Police Command says it has smashed multiple kidnapping syndicates, arresting five suspects, including two sisters, Juliet Chukwu, 39, and Nancy Chukwu 40, who allegedly masterminded the abduction of their own elder brother, Friday Chukwu.
Juliet, an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Nancy, who serves with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), were arrested on July 15, 2025, while sharing a ransom of N10 million reportedly extorted from their brother.
Police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the arrest in a statement, saying: “On July 15, 2025, at about 2:20 p.m., the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad arrested two female suspects, Juliet Chukwu (39) and Nancy Chukwu (40), in an intelligence-led operation. The suspects, who are sisters and claimed to be law enforcement officers, were apprehended while sharing a ransom of N10 million.”
He further disclosed that the duo had demanded a ransom of N50 million before settling for N10 million. “The victim was rescued unharmed, and the operatives recovered the ransom cash and a Toyota Corolla vehicle belonging to one of the suspects,” the police added. The arrest of the sisters was part of a series of coordinated operations between July 5 and 16, 2025, which led to the arrest of three other suspected kidnappers, the rescue of a victim, and the recovery of cash, weapons, and stolen property.
Ndukwe stated: “The Enugu State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its sustained fight against violent crimes, particularly kidnapping.
“Through a series of intelligence-driven operations conducted between July 5 and 16, 2025, the Command successfully neutralised one armed kidnapping suspect, arrested five others, and rescued a kidnapped victim.
“An AK-47 rifle with two rounds of live ammunition, a Toyota Corolla vehicle, N10million in cash obtained as ransom, and other incriminating exhibits were recovered.”
