They were rescued by operatives of the Command’s Crack Tactical Squad during a routine patrol along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, Enugu.

Ndukwe explained that preliminary investigations revealed the suspect lured the victims from Ogoja, Cross River state, promising them job opportunities in Ghana. He allegedly told them they would work in a restaurant owned by his “baby mama.”

“The suspect, who claimed to be a casual labourer, took the girls without the knowledge or consent of their parents or relatives,” Ndukwe said.

He added that further findings indicated Wonna had attempted to rape the victims while lodging them in a hotel, where they were kept pending departure.

The police confirmed that the victims have since been returned to their families in Cross River state, while efforts were underway to track other members of the trafficking network.

Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, commended the operatives for what he described as “vigilance and swift intervention,” and ordered a thorough investigation to ensure timely prosecution.

“We remain unwavering in our commitment to combating human trafficking and other violent crimes. I urge citizens to stay vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities,” CP Giwa stated.
