In continuation of its special intervention program, “Giving Back Together”, the Glo Foundation on Saturday in Warri presented essential food packs to thousands of women from Warri and surrounding local government areas and communities in Delta State.
The event which was held at Urhobo College in Warri was designed to support the nation’s most vulnerable populations and help cushion the effects of the current economic situation.
The beneficiaries, who included aged women and widows, traveled from communities such as Warri North, Warri South, Aladja, Ughelli South, Udu, and Uvwie local government areas to attend the event immediately following the state’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise. Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, Mrs. Jumobi Mofe-Damijo who spoke at the event, stated that similar donation programs had been successfully held in other states, and it was now Delta women’s turn to benefit. She explained that the Food Drive has become a swift and effective way for the company to reach the women population, who often make up the largest portion of the disadvantaged in any society.
“Our Food Drive is not just for anyone. It is targeted at the most vulnerable segment of the Nigerian society, that is, women and children. “When we help them, we are helping the society at large.”
The beneficiaries received one food pack each containing a variety of staples, including 5 kilograms of rice, 5 kilograms of Gaari, Semovita, Spaghetti, vegetable oil, sachets of tomato paste, sardines, seasoning cubes, noodles and other essential household items. The beneficiaries were overwhelmed and expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Globacom for the initiative, with many singing and dancing in appreciation. Princess Omo-Udoyo, from Ughelli North, shared her joy, saying, “I have not seen this before. I thank God and Glo Foundation for this gift.”
Also Mrs. Esther Okoro of Otu Jeremi in Ughelli South offered continuous prayers for the company when asked about the package. “God will lift the company and people who have done this. He will lift them higher and higher. They will never lack anything. For doing this for us today, I say may God protect them. You will always go higher.”
The Globacom Food Drive is scheduled to roll out in other key cities across the country in the months ahead, bringing relief and joy to many more families.
