Gombe: Health practitioners celebrate new salary structure

From Abdulrazaq Mungadi, Gombe

Health practitioners across Gombe State are celebrating the state government’s approval and full implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS), a long-awaited wage reform that takes effect from October 2025.

The policy, valued at about N250 million monthly or roughly N3 billion annually, which was announced by the state governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya during the health summit in Gombe, has been hailed as a major victory for health workers and a demonstration of the governor’s commitment to improving welfare and strengthening the state’s healthcare system.

In a statement issued in Gombe, the State Chairman of the Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria (ACHPN), Comrade Abdulkarim Aliyu, described the development as “a landmark achievement” that underscores the administration’s resolve to reposition the health sector.

He said, “We sincerely appreciate His Excellency, Governor Inuwa Yahaya, for this bold and compassionate step. This new salary structure has rekindled hope among health professionals and restored confidence in the state’s commitment to fairness, motivation, and service delivery.”

Aliyu called on all community health practitioners and allied professionals to reciprocate the government’s gesture through renewed dedication, discipline, and quality service to the people of Gombe State.

According to the state government, the wage reform is part of the administration’s broader healthcare transformation agenda, which includes the revitalisation of primary health centres, expansion of maternal and child health services, and improved access to essential drugs and equipment.

“With the implementation of the new salary structure, Gombe’s healthcare workforce enters a new phase of optimism and accountability, one that will translate into stronger health outcomes and sustained progress in the state’s health sector,” Aliyu stated.
