From Abdulrazaq Mungadi, Gombe
The Gombe State Police Command has busted a notorious cross-border kidnapping syndicate operating between Nigeria and Cameroon, arresting a key suspect and recovering two AK-47 rifles and 80 rounds of live ammunition.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Buhari Abdullahi, during a press conference on Tuesday in Gombe. He said the breakthrough followed an intelligence-led operation by the Command’s tactical team, Operation Hattara, under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya.

“On 4th October 2025, at about 1700 hours, our operatives acting on credible intelligence arrested one Adamu Adamu, aged 30, of Song Local Government Area (LGA), Adamawa State, currently residing in Jauro Jatau Quarters, Akko LGA of Gombe state,” Abdullahi stated.
According to him, the suspect is a key member of a cross-border kidnapping network responsible for several abductions for ransom within Nigeria and the Republic of Cameroon. He added that during interrogation, the suspect made confessional statements that led to the recovery of the gang’s hidden weapons cache in a mountainous area near Wuro Biriji Village in Song, Adamawa State.
“In a follow-up operation on 5th October, our team recovered two AK-47 rifles and 80 live rounds of ammunition, seven magazines, a chain and padlocks, a knife, and four small bags used during operations,” the PPRO said.
According to him, while commending the gallantry and professionalism of the officers, CP Yahaya described the operation as “a clear testament to the Command’s renewed strategy in combating organised crime”.
He said, “this Command under my leadership will continue to pursue all criminal elements, no matter where they hide. We are determined to deny kidnappers and bandits any operational space in Gombe or across our borders”.
The Police Commissioner also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining public confidence through intelligence gathering and proactive policing.
The command further assured that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the suspect’s fleeing accomplices and dismantle the entire network. “We will not relent until every member of this syndicate is brought to justice. The era of unchecked kidnapping and violent crimes in Gombe is over,” DSP Abdullahi emphasised.
