The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) has lauded Governor Peter Mbah’s development strides in Enugu State, noting his commitment to ensuring that infrastructure and development reach every part of the state simultaneously.

The Institute’s leadership and members expressed this view during a courtesy visit to the governor at the Government House, Enugu, on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, on the sidelines of their national workshop and induction of newly qualified Quantity Surveyors at the International Conference Centre in the state capital. The workshop was themed “Standardising Procurement Excellence and Efficiency: The Nigerian Bureau of Procurement’s Standard Bidding Documents.”

Speaking during the visit, which included former Chief of Army Staff and Quantity Surveyor, Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd), the NIQS President, Quantity Surveyor Kene Nzekwe, praised the state’s security, ambience, and tranquillity, stating, “It is a known fact that the development and growth of any country or state is highly dependent on her level of infrastructure development and the commitment of the leadership to ensure infrastructure delivery.

“The magnitude of projects traversing the state is a statement that the Governor desires that development quickly reaches every nook and cranny of the state,” he said.

Nzekwe pledged the Institute’s continued partnership with the Mbah Administration in the planning, execution, and management of construction projects, emphasizing the critical role of quantity surveyors in cost management, financial efficiency, and fiscal integrity.

“Your dexterity for economic prosperity and societal well-being, and with the apparent interest of your government to develop infrastructure in various sectors, the role of quantity surveyors cannot be overstated. By harnessing our expertise, we assure you that projects would not only be completed on time but also within budgets, thus maximising value for money for every naira spent,” he added.

He also sought the state government’s support for the Enugu chapter of the Institute.

In response, Governor Mbah noted that the workshop’s theme aligned with his administration’s commitment to transparency. He pledged continued collaboration with the NIQS in managing over 2,000 ongoing and completed projects, including 260 Smart Green Schools and 260 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres across Enugu’s 260 political wards.

“The theme of your conference resonates with us. The first thing I did after my swearing-in was to sign Executive Order 001, which speaks to transparency. Our governance philosophy is underpinned by transparency, accountability, and fund traceability. We ensure we get value for every naira spent here in Enugu, and there is no way we would have achieved this without your noble profession,” Mbah stated.
