Government Enforces Strict Security Directives in Anambra

In a bid to curb insecurity in Anambra State, the government has introduced strict security measures for hotel owners and landlords.

The directive, signed by Ken Emeakayi, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, mandates that all hotel owners must require guests to provide a valid government-issued identification, such as a National Identity Card, International Passport, or Voter’s Card, upon check-in.

“The hotel must make photocopies of these documents and submit them to the community’s president general, who will then forward them to the local government mayor and subsequently to the state government,” Emeakayi stated.

He warned that failure to comply with this regulation would result in the forfeiture of the hotel or guest house to the government, and the owner would be held accountable.

Similarly, landlords and landladies must obtain official forms from their community’s president general and ensure that all tenants, whether residential or commercial, fill them out using a government-approved means of identification.

Emeakayi emphasized that landlords who fail to submit these completed forms to the government through the president general would risk losing their property and would be held responsible for any offense committed by their tenants.

“All presidents general of towns now serve as chairpersons of the Agunaechemba security committee in their respective communities and must oversee the daily activities of the Agunaechemba security outfit,” the directive further stated.

Additionally, every president general is required to submit detailed monthly security reports to the government. Non-compliance will result in suspension and further government sanctions.

The Special Adviser also encouraged citizens to take advantage of the government’s whistleblowing policy by reporting kidnappers, with rewards starting from five million Naira.
