During their 5th meeting on August 27, 2025, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) made a pivotal resolution to establish Creative Economy Desks across all states, aiming to drive growth in the culture and tourism sector.
The Forum, chaired by AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Governor of Kwara State, received a strategic presentation from the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, delivered by Obi Asika, Director General of the Council for Arts and Culture.
The presentation, according to the communique issued by the NGF Chairman, outlined a bold roadmap to increase the sector’s GDP contribution to $100 billion by 2030 and create over 3 million jobs nationwide.
To actualize these goals, Governors committed to creating State Creative Economy Desks that will serve as hubs for coordinating local cultural initiatives, fostering collaboration on festivals, and integrating with the national Naija Season platform. This decentralised approach is designed to strengthen the creative industries, expand tourism, and elevate Nigeria’s cultural presence globally.
The Forum also endorsed initiatives including the $200 million Creative Economy Development Fund and the $1 billion Creative and Tourism Infrastructure Corporation, as well an flagship projects like the Lagos Arena, Abuja Creative City, and Renewed Hope Cultural Villages.
Expressing solidarity, the Governors extended condolences to Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo on the passing of his father, a minute silence was observed for the death before turning focus to the transformative cultural and economic agenda they embraced.
