Harvest of arrests: Kaduna police nab 420 suspected criminals

Kaduna State Police Command said it arrested over 420 suspects   and recovered weapons at their hideouts over a period of time. Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Rabiu, said: “The command chased the criminals out of the their hideouts. We will not relent to rid Kaduna of criminals. Our officers remain committed to pursuing justice with diligence and integrity.

“Kaduna-Abuja Expressway is now safe. There has been constant raiding of the criminals’ hideouts on the highway. Some suspects were arrested and are still under investigation. 

“Operatives arrested a 59-year-old impersonator. He was arrested at his residence located in Keffi, Nasarawa State. He confessed to have impersonated profile personalities including governors of Kaduna, Nasarawa and Ondo states.

“Others included Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC] and Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service [FIRS]. We recovered five mobile phones and 23 SIM cards.   

“The Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) arrested a notorious bandits   gang leader. He has been on the run for the past 11 years. The Kawo Division recovered a stolen vehicle form the criminals. Four suspects who specialised in attacking, maiming, killing cyclists and dispossessing them of their cycles were also arrested.

“Operatives in Makafi Division raided a suspected illegal arms factory in Giroji, Marafi LG, arrested suspects and recovered three locally fabricated rifles, three incomplete rifle frames, 14 cartridges, five rounds of live ammunition, metal fabrication tools, including a welding machine. Three suspects found in possession of two locally made gun and two live cartridges were apprehended.

“Five suspected armed robbers were arrested at their residence in Ungwan Sanusi. Police apprehended two suspects along Zaira-Kano Expressway attempting to rob a tricycle operator. They were involved in stealing a Toyota Corolla and other valuables.

“There has been constant patrols and surveillance on the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway with other sister agencies. Operatives attached to the Special Task Force remain on high alert and committed to restoring peace and order.

“Police in Barnawa Division in conjunction with Kakuri Division and 312 Military Artillery Regiment neutralised two suspected armed robbers. They invaded Gashash Estate and robed seven victims. Stolen items recovered included mobile phones three wristwatches, two laptops, gaming consoles and assorted items.

“Police raided took densely populated and vulnerable area such as Rigasa, Kawo, Tudun Wada and Sabon Tasha.

They recovered 30 bags containing about 1,600 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and dangerous weapons.

“We aim to restoring public confidence and tackle insecurity frontally. We want to appreciate the public for given us useful information in smoking out hoodlums from their various hideouts.”
