Commander, NNS SOROH, Commodore Akinbami, who gave the assurance, said the move is in compliance with president Bola Tinubu’s directive to the armed forces of Nigeria to increase oil production capacity, which is put at 1. 85 million barrels per day (bpd).

Commodore Akinbami, said this when he received Defence correspondents on tour of military operations in the south south region of the country.

The commander while reiterating the resolve of the navy to protect the nations critical infrastructures, warned oil thieves, pipeline vandals, and other economic saboteurs operating within the Central Naval Command headquarters in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State, to repent of their evil acts or have themselves to blame.

He however assured of the navy will to continue to win the hearts and minds of law abiding citizens through it non-kinetic operations.

So far, he said the non-kinetic efforts have led to significant improvements in community relations, as some communities where the navy was never welcomed are now collaborating with the service to achieve its mandate through its outreach programs.

Akinbami, while noting the lack of infrastructure and basic amenities in the creeks of the South South region poses significant challenges, called on government to address the challenges so as not to jeopardize military operations.

Giving an update of its operations, Akinbami, said “The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) SOROH, the Nigerian Navy, and the Nigerian Armed Forces at large will continue to remain resolute and ensure safety and security in their respective areas of operation.

“NNS SOROH is using this avenue to inform all unscrupulous elements that are bent on conducting illegal activities within Bayelsa State, or its environs to desist, because it will not be a safe haven for them.

“And efforts will be in top gear to ensure that such activities are denied in this general area.

“Lastly, Nigerian Navy Ship SOROH remains resolute to ensure that the presidential directive to achieve two million barrels per day, will be met.

“This is a strategic directive from the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS’).”
