Imo State Launches 105 School Building Projects Across Councils

Imo State

Imo State has rolled out an ambitious education plan with 105 school building projects across 27 local government areas. This bold step marks a turning point for schools long burdened with overcrowding and weak facilities.

Imo State Bold Step in Education Reform

Governor Hope Uzodimma placed education at the heart of his development vision. His government, working through the State Universal Basic Education Board (IMSUBEB), set out clear goals: modernize classrooms, end shortages, and give children a chance to learn in dignity.

Prince Eze Ugochukwu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, explained that this first phase represents a transformative shift. He stressed that the programme aims to expand access while creating modern, safe learning environments for students across the state.

105 School Building Projects in Motion

Construction has already begun. Across several local government areas, new classroom blocks are rising. Old, broken structures are being replaced, and fresh sites now show real progress. The state directed contractors to stick to strict deadlines, and initial checks confirm that many projects are moving quickly. The target is bold—complete this first phase within six months.

At the same time, the government has started a recruitment drive for teachers. Prof. B. T. O. Ikegwuoha, Commissioner for Primary and Secondary Education, urged shortlisted candidates to check with local Executive Secretaries of Education and proceed with the next steps. This ensures that once classrooms open, teachers will be ready to guide students.

Imo Communities Welcome the Change

For years, parents and children endured tough conditions. Many students studied under leaking roofs, overcrowded classrooms, or even in open spaces. Those painful memories are now giving way to hope as new buildings stand tall.

Teachers see brighter prospects for their profession. Parents feel reassured that their children will no longer struggle in unsafe classrooms. Most importantly, students feel excited to walk into modern learning spaces built for their success.

Building a Future Through Education

Education remains the most powerful tool for change. With these 105 school building projects, Imo is not only fixing classrooms but also shaping the future of thousands of children. Each block of cement and brick stands as proof that leadership, when focused, can bring real transformation.

The vision is clear: no child should be left behind because of poor infrastructure. With stronger classrooms, motivated teachers, and supportive communities, Imo is writing a new chapter in its education story—one filled with hope, dignity, and opportunity.
