The Kaduna State University (KASU) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its strike, which began on February 18.
Resolution of Dispute
The decision to call off the strike was reached on Saturday, according to a statement by the union’s chairman, Dr. Peter Adamu, on Monday.
Adamu explained that the state government demonstrated goodwill by promptly releasing funds for the payment of:
- 60% of the withheld September 2017 salaries
- Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) supervision allowance for five sessions
Additionally, the government committed to a timeline for the payment of:
- Five months’ withheld salaries (May to September 2022)
- Promotion arrears
- Earned Academic Allowance (EAA)
- Pension remittances (2009–2019)
- Death benefits and Group Life Assurance
Government’s Commitments
The union also acknowledged the government’s commitment to implementing wage awards and granting autonomy to the university.
Appreciation and Resumption of Academic Activities
ASUU expressed gratitude to Governor Uba Sani for his swift intervention, as well as to the university management, Commissioners for Education and Sports, and other stakeholders for their role in resolving the dispute.
Dr. Adamu urged all academic staff to resume work and continue providing essential services to the university community.
