From Kenneth Udeh, Abia
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, announced on Monday, August 4, 2025, the completion of an additional 2 kilometres of the Umuzomgbo Road in Arochukwu Local Government Area, bringing the total completed stretch to 5.5 kilometres.
The project is now 3–4 kilometres away from reaching Okpo Ihechiowa, a strategic border community, enhancing connectivity and economic opportunities in the region.
In a statement shared on his official platforms, Kalu, who chairs the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the resources necessary for the project’s execution. “I am pleased to announce the completion of an additional 2KM of the Umuzomgbo Arochukwu Road with double drainage, adding to the earlier 3.5KM, making a total of 5.5KM done so far. With just 3–4 km left to reach Okpo Ihechiowa, I remain fully committed to delivering on this project,” Kalu stated. “I sincerely appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing us with the resources to execute this project. To the people of Abia North Senatorial District, I thank you for your support and encouragement as we continue to serve you with sincerity, humility, and dedication. Keep hope alive.”
Barrister Ody Ajike from Akanu, Ohafia, publicly endorsed Kalu’s performance, stating, “I support OUK because I have seen his representative impact in my community and other communities within the Senatorial Zone. No Abia North senator has done as much in eight years as Orji Kalu. We had men whose objectives were prestige and those who shared pans. Swing around your location and point out what any past senator had done and at the same time assess Orji Kalu.” Ajike, identifying as a professional with no personal gain, added, “I am only interested in Orji Kalu for the benefit of my people.”
The Umuzomgbo Road project adds to Kalu’s record of over 500 rural infrastructure projects and more than 30 legislative bills sponsored since his election to the Senate in 2019. His efforts have earned him multiple awards, including recognitions from the Senate Press Corps, the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN), and the “Progressive Leadership Award” from the Progressive Movement for Better Nigeria.
As the 2027 elections approach, political observers note that Kalu’s focus on infrastructure, legislative activity, and community-driven representation continues to strengthen his legacy in Abia North and the national political landscape.
