The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service rescued 252 persons and saved property worth ₦64.32 billion in the last six months.

This is contained in the service’s Mid-Year Activity Report for January to June 2025 obtained by Daily Sun on Monday.

“In the first half of Y2025, the LSFRS responded to a total of 1,072 emergency incidents.

“These incidents comprised 922 fire calls, 2 minor explosion incidents, 10 building collapses- eight of it were partial, 73 rescue operations, and 65 salvage incidents,” the report stated.

The report also noted that the service recorded a staggering 315 false emergency calls, emphasising the persistent challenge posed by non-genuine emergencies.

“During this period, the Service commendably rescued 252 individuals from perilous situations, including fires and building collapses. Regrettably, 62 fatalities were recorded,” it further reads.

The service said its swift and decisive actions were instrumental in protecting property across Lagos State.

“However, estimated property valued at approximately ₦64.32 billion was saved, while losses were estimated at ₦10.72 billion,” the report further stated.

Director, Margaret Adeseye noted that the figures demonstrate her agency’s effectiveness in contributing to the Lagos economy while minimising damage, safeguarding lives, environments and assets throughout the state.

Adeseye added that the agency is proactively engaging stakeholders across the state to address the menace of fire outbreaks.

According to her, these efforts would be further strengthened during the upcoming Lagos International Fire Safety Conference 2.0, where collaborative strategies for enhancing fire safety and emergency response would be further discussed.
