Lagos plans rehabilitation of Maza-Maza link bridge

By Lukman Olabiyi

The Lagos State government has announced plans to commence rehabilitation works on the Maza-Maza link bridge, as part of its ongoing infrastructure renewal programme aimed at ensuring safety and long-term durability of critical transport corridors across the state.

The announcement was made during the official reopening of the Ogudu-Ifako Bridge, which was completed ahead of schedule after undergoing major repair works on its expansion joints.

Speaking at the event, Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Mr Olufemi Daramola, and Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Seun Osiyemi, emphasised the state’s continued commitment to restoring and maintaining key infrastructure.
The upcoming Maza-Maza project, they noted, is in line with the government’s proactive approach to addressing structural wear before it becomes hazardous.

“The Maza-Maza link bridge has been identified for similar maintenance to what was just concluded here at Ogudu-Ifako. Preventive repair is crucial — we don’t wait for infrastructure to fail before acting,” Daramola stated.

The officials used the occasion to charge Lagosians with the responsibility of protecting public infrastructure, warning that negligence, abuse, or sabotage of rehabilitated assets undermines the state’s development efforts and endangers lives.

“These projects are funded by taxpayers, and their longevity depends on how well we all maintain and protect them.
“We’ve seen great cooperation during the Ogudu-Ifako bridge repairs. We ask residents to extend that same sense of civic responsibility to the Maza-Maza area and beyond,” said Osiyemi.

Daramola further explained that the early delivery of the Ogudu-Ifako Bridge project—completed in 78 days instead of the planned 101—was a result of efficient planning and public support.
The project, executed in eight phases, involved the replacement of four expansion joints which, if left unattended, could have compromised the bridge’s structural integrity.

The duo also cited other completed bridge rehabilitation works at Odo-Iyalaro and Apongbon as part of the administration’s broad infrastructure improvement strategy.

They reaffirmed the government’s resolve to invest in safe, sustainable transportation networks while calling on all residents to act as custodians of public assets.

“Every road, bridge, or facility we fix is for the collective good. Let’s preserve what we have achieved together,” Daramola urged.
