A Chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) and the former treasurer of the party, Mrs Oluchi Opara, has reacted to the court order from Hon. Justice Mustapha A. Ramat of Nasarawa State division, describing it as a joke and a mere distraction to the party.

Recall that the Barrister Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party LP, over the weekend, through its National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, circulated to the media a press statement containing an interlocutory injunction granted the group for the INEC to recognize Abure’s leadership as against the Supreme Court Judgement that has removed it from office.

The statement indicated that the court presided over by His Lordship, Hon Justice Mustapha A. Ramat of the Nasarawa state division had on July 23, 2025, in a SUIT NO. NSD/LF.84/2024 in an interlocutory order directed INEC to also grant Access Code to Julius Abure and Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim to upload the names and particulars of their nominated candidates for the bye elections and the FCT Area Council elections as scheduled by the INEC

Mrs Opara stated, “Regarding the recent court order obtained by Abure, the former national chairman of the Labour Party, from a state high court, I want to clarify that INEC, being a federal executive body, is subject to the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court.
Moreover, considering the Supreme Court’s judgment on April 4, 2025, which sacked Abure, it’s even more evident that the state high court lacks jurisdiction to entertain matters concerning the federal executive body or Abure’s purported leadership.
“We urge the public to disregard Abure’s antics, as they appear part of his manipulative tactics to deceive the public. Given his sacked status, Abure’s actions seem to be a desperate attempt to cling to power. We’re aware of ongoing cases at the Federal High Court, which Abure and his cohorts seem to have abandoned in favour of this publicity stunt”.

She further advised the Labour Party, PDP leadership, and its supporters to remain calm and not be swayed by this development.

“The right judgment will prevail in due time. We will respond accordingly when the time is right. Let’s wait for the Federal High Court’s verdict, as it will provide clarity and direction”, she remarked.
