LP faults Nenadi Usman over alleged misinterpretation of S’Court ruling

From Sola Ojo, Abuja

The Julius Abure-led Labour Party has taken a swipe at Senator Nenadi Usman, now a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, accusing her and her allies of deliberately misrepresenting the recent Supreme Court ruling concerning internal party affairs.

In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh, the party maintained that the apex court merely ruled that it lacked jurisdiction alongside other lower courts to adjudicate on matters relating to internal affairs of political parties.

He stressed that the judgment did not validate the claims being peddled by Usman and her camp.

“For the umpteenth time, the apex court merely ruled on the lack of jurisdiction of the courts, including itself, to entertain any matter concerning internal party affairs.

“If the courts lack jurisdiction, will the Supreme Court violate its own judgment on jurisdiction?” Ifoh queried.

He further asserted that the party had moved on from the legal battles and now focused on the 2027 general elections.

According to him, serious aspirants were already declaring interest in working with the Labour Party, while those still stuck in the past are free to remain there. “Let the wailers continue to wail but we have refused to be distracted,” Obiora said.
