Mburubu Community Appeals Judgment, Insists Onuokaibe as Legitimate Monarch

The Mburubu General Assembly has appealed the Enugu State High Court ruling ordering a fresh election for the traditional leadership of the community, insisting that Chief Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe remains the legitimate monarch.

Speaking in Enugu, the assembly’s legal counsel, Barr. Chijioke Odueze, described the ruling as a travesty of justice, questioning why the court recognized both the 1976 and 2003 constitutions but favored the latter. He confirmed that a stay of execution had been filed, pending the appeal’s determination.

Odueze stated, “The 2003 constitution is unknown to the people. The 1976 constitution, under which the late Igwe HRH Igwe EMO. Ezeh was enthroned, remains the only valid document.”

Meanwhile, Ndị Nze na Ọzọ Mburubu and Ákwá Mburubu, the community’s highest traditional groups, condemned the ruling, urging the government to uphold the people’s decision and warning against any actions that might lead to unrest.
