Men in the dock for alleged theft of cables in Ibadan

Two men, Ismaheel Aminu and Sefiano Saheed, who allegedly stole electric cables at Ogboro Village, Iyana Offa community in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State, appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan on Friday.

Aminu, 26, and Saheed, 20, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Tellang, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on September 20 at 3.00 p.m. at Iyana Offa area of Ibadan.

Tellang said that the defendants stole the cables worth N30, 000, belonging to the Ogboro Village, Iyana Offa community.

He said that the men were caught by passersby who handed them over to the police.

Tellang said the offences contravened Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that The Magistrate, Mrs. Moyosore Atanda granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each and with two sureties in like sum.
