The Niger State government has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the swift response over the flood disaster that wreak havoc in Mokwa, Mokwa local government area of the state, leaving well over 151 people dead and 3 ,018 household swept away following a torrential rain fall last week Wednesday.
The state government in a statement in Minna on Sunday by the Special Adviser on communication and media strategy to the governor, Hon. Jonathan Vatsa, described the federal government response as swift and timely.

Vatsa confirmed that all the directives of the President is being carried out including the supply of relief materials, critical aid and temporary shelters for the over 3,018 displaced people, stressing that “the swift response by the President is a welcome development and this has greatly relieved the people and reduced tension in the affected communities.
“This quick response has actually relieved the state government of a huge burden because the situation is beyond what the state resources can handle. Although the state government has actually mobilized the state emergency response team to the areas immediately the flood occurred, the federal government swift intervention is very key,” Vatsa added.
It could be recalled that in addition to the activation of the National Emergency Response Center in Mokwa, the President also sent a high level delegation led by the Ministers of Information and National Orientation, Mallam Idris Mohammed Malagi, and that of Humanitarian Affairs and poverty alleviation, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda to the state to condole and commiserate with the government and people of the state.
The state government said the gesture by the President underscore the commitment to saving lives and value for human dignity, adding that “the federal government has continue to identify and stand with the government and people of the state in difficult times. Similar gesture was extended to the state during the fuel tanker disaster in Dikko early this year.”
Meanwhile, as the search and rescue operation enters its fourth day, more bodies are being recovered as the death toll from the disaster is said to be nearing 200 as of Sunday morning even as the official figures released by te state emergency management agency stands at 151 on Saturday.
