Nigerian-born American football player Morotoluwa Ojomo, who recently won the 2025 NFL Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles, has unveiled plans to establish a sports academy in Nigeria. The initiative aims to empower young athletes and create opportunities for the next generation.
Ojomo, who arrived in Lagos with his family on Wednesday, shared his vision during a meeting with Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, in Abuja. He emphasized the importance of investing in Nigerian youth to unlock their potential and drive national development.
The proposed academy will provide training and mentorship, promoting the growth of Nigerian-born athletes both domestically and internationally. Ojomo also highlighted his commitment to advancing flag football in Nigeria, with hopes of qualifying teams for the 2028 Olympics.
“The goal is to see Nigerians excelling in American football. Many do not understand the sport, but with the right investment and exposure, we can make it popular,” he stated.
Reflecting on his journey from Lagos to California and ultimately to NFL success, Ojomo credited his Nigerian heritage for instilling the values of perseverance and hard work. He expressed a strong belief in Nigeria’s potential, emphasizing the need to nurture young talent to make the country a global leader in sports.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa congratulated Ojomo on his Super Bowl victory and praised his dedication to his roots. She announced that he would receive a national honor from the Nigerian government and invited him to inspire others at the upcoming Diaspora Day on July 25.
Ojomo’s achievement places him among other Nigerian-born NFL champions, including C.J. Uzomah, Chukwuebuka Godrick, Chris Oladokun, and Charles Omenihu. His efforts to develop sports in Nigeria aim to create lasting change and elevate the country’s presence on the global stage.
