Engr. Cornelius Adebayo, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), recently met with the new executive committee of the Organic Fertilizers Producers Association of Nigeria (OFPSAN) in Abuja. The meeting aimed to explore collaborative opportunities to enhance the use of organic fertilizers in Nigerian agriculture, a crucial step toward improving crop yields and sustainability.
Enhancing Agricultural Output through Collaboration
In his address, Adebayo recognized the significant role that organic fertilizers can play in boosting agricultural productivity. He welcomed OFPSAN as a vital stakeholder in the agricultural value chain and expressed enthusiasm for partnering to promote organic farming practices. “Using organic fertilizers is essential for not only increasing crop yields but also for improving soil health and sustainability in our farming systems,” he stated.
Adebayo urged OFPSAN to implement pilot programs to test their products in various agricultural settings. He stressed the importance of involving key players in these pilot initiatives to ensure comprehensive evaluation and feedback. “We need to gather data on the effectiveness of these fertilizers in real farming conditions to maximize their benefits for our farmers,” he noted.
He also reassured OFPSAN of NALDA’s commitment to supporting innovative agricultural initiatives that align with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “We are open to all initiatives that can uplift our agricultural sector and enhance food security for all Nigerians,” Adebayo added.
Commitment to Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security
The partnership discussions come at a crucial time when Nigeria is focused on enhancing its agricultural productivity and achieving self-sufficiency in food production. The increasing challenges of climate change and environmental degradation underscore the necessity for sustainable agricultural practices.
The leadership of OFPSAN expressed their eagerness to collaborate, recognizing that this partnership could lead to significant advancements in agricultural practices. They emphasized the potential of organic fertilizers to not only improve yields but also contribute to the long-term health of the soil and environment.
As the meeting concluded, both parties agreed to establish a framework for ongoing collaboration. Adebayo highlighted the need for continuous dialogue and cooperation in achieving the shared goal of enhancing agricultural productivity through sustainable practices.
In summary, the meeting between NALDA’s Engr. Cornelius Adebayo and OFPSAN’s new executive committee marks a significant step toward promoting the use of organic fertilizers in Nigeria.
