Nasarawa United kicked off the 4th edition of the Gusau/Ahlan Preseason Tournament in dominant fashion with a resounding 5–0 victory over SI14 in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
The tournament’s opening match, held amidst a colorful ceremony and cheering fans, saw the Solid Miners display complete tactical and technical superiority, setting the tone for the rest of the competition.
Chidera Nduka opened scoring for Nasarawa United in the 20th minute, before Mubarak Husseini added a second in the 33rd minute, leaving their opponents struggling to find a response.
The second half saw Nasarawa United increase the tempo as Abiodun Omolayo, Ada Umar, and Tochukwu Miracle each scored to complete the rout.
Match statistics showed Nasarawa United had 70 percent possession, with eight shots on target compared to SI14’s five. The Solid Miners also had seven corners and 10 off-target shots, while SI14 could only manage one corner and six off-target attempts. SI14 received the only yellow card of the encounter.
Speaking after the match, Nasarawa United Assistant Coach, Steven Moga, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance.
“It’s a statement win that shows what we’re capable of,” he said. “The boys executed the game plan with precision, and the team spirit was excellent. We will keep building from here.”
On the other hand, Coach Ibrahim Ndala of SI14 admitted the result was disappointing but promised to bounce back in their next game.
“It was not the result we hoped for, but we’ve seen our mistakes and will make corrections before the next match,” a team representative said.
The Gusau/Ahlan Preseason Tournament, now in its fourth edition, continues in Lafia with participating clubs eyeing early momentum ahead of the new football season.
