The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has officially launched its Asset Restoration Program (ARP) in Maiduguri, Borno State, on July 7, 2025. This initiative aims to revitalize critical infrastructure and support economic recovery in regions affected by conflict and instability. The launch event attracted key stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and representatives from various sectors.
Revitalizing Affected Communities
The ARP is designed to restore and enhance the operational capacity of essential infrastructure in Maiduguri and its surrounding areas. With a focus on engineering, technology, and local capacity building, the program seeks to address the challenges posed by years of conflict, which have severely impacted the region’s infrastructure and economic activities.
During the launch, Professor Mohammed Sani Haruna, Executive Vice Chairman of NASENI, emphasized the program’s significance in fostering sustainable development. “The Asset Restoration Program is not just about rebuilding physical structures; it’s about restoring hope and opportunities for the people of Maiduguri,” he stated. Haruna highlighted that the program would involve collaboration with local communities to ensure that the restoration efforts meet their needs and contribute to long-term growth.
The ARP will focus on various sectors, including education, healthcare, and transportation. By revitalizing these critical areas, NASENI aims to create jobs, enhance access to services, and promote economic activities that can empower the local population.
Collaborative Efforts for Sustainable Impact
The launch of the ARP in Maiduguri also underscores the importance of collaboration between governmental bodies, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector. Local government officials, including the Borno State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Zuwaira Gambo, expressed their support for the initiative, emphasizing the need for a coordinated approach to rebuilding the region.
“By working together, we can create a resilient infrastructure that not only meets the current demands but also prepares us for future challenges,” Gambo stated. She highlighted that local involvement in the program is crucial for its success, as it ensures that the community’s voices are heard and their needs addressed.
The launch event featured various presentations and discussions on best practices for implementing the program effectively. Stakeholders explored innovative solutions that leverage technology and local expertise to achieve the program’s objectives.
As NASENI embarks on the ARP in Maiduguri, the initiative represents a significant step towards revitalizing communities affected by conflict. Through collaborative efforts and sustainable practices, the program aims to restore hope, rebuild lives, and lay the foundation for a prosperous future in the region. With the commitment of all stakeholders, the Asset Restoration Program has the potential to transform Maiduguri into a hub of economic activity and resilience.
