From Geoffrey Anyanwu, Enugu
Pioneer National Chairman and founder of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Chekwas Okorie, has said that Ndigbo have no excuse to lack relevance and well deserved respect in Nigeria.
He said the Igbo nation has been blessed by God with a huge population and enviable geographical spread, which had remained largely untapped over the years.

Okorie, who made the assertion, yesterday, while speaking on the planned forthcoming meeting of Igbo political leaders and elite, stressed that it has become imperative to, in a sustainable manner, reverse the present unacceptable situation of Ndigbo in Nigeria.
In a letter of invitation to some Igbo leaders to the meeting, Okorie, who is the convener, stated that it was to discuss the mobilisation of Ndigbo towards 2027 elections and beyond.
He said, “After a number of consultations, it became compelling that a select number of our leaders across political party lines and other critical stakeholders be invited to deliberate on what ought to be the agenda of Ndigbo in Nigerian politics, irrespective of political party affiliation.
“God has blessed Ndigbo with a huge population and enviable geographical spread, which have remained largely untapped over the years. We have no excuse to lack relevance and well deserved respect in Nigeria.”
Noting that the meeting is under the auspices of Igbo Agenda Dialogue, Okorie explained that it is political but non-partisan, and not for 2027 alone.
He said, “We owe ourselves and our younger generations the responsibility to provide the required guidance and chart a deliberate action-plan to reverse our present unacceptable situation in a sustainable manner. It is for this and other related matters, that this meeting has become compelling and crucial.
“I wish to emphasise that this meeting is non-partisan even as the subject matter is political.”
Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of Igbo Agenda Dialogue, Jonathan Elendu, disclosed that most of the invitees have enthusiastically accepted the invitation to be present in the meeting that would hold before the end of August, in Abuja.
