The event, which welcomed fresh students during the weekend at the Engineering Auditorium with a presentation by the Edo State commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju.

Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju, who emphasised the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of making informed decisions said that many have derailed through ignorance, peer pressure, poor parental upbringing and availability of illicit drugs. The presentation aimed to equip students with knowledge about the risks associated with substance use and encouraged them to protect their future by adopting healthier lifestyles.

“We must understand that drugs can rob us of our dreams and aspirations. Many students did not have the privilege of attending a lecture like this forewarning them of the dangers of drug abuse. I therefore urge you to be vigilant and to seek support if faced with peer pressure.” Mitchell warned.

His message resonated strongly with the audience, which included Emmanuel George, a representative of Face of Enterprising Management, and leaders from the Engineering Students Association. According to George, “Anti-drug abuse education will reinforce the importance of drug awareness, discipline and healthy living among the students.”

George commended the NDLEA for spearheading such initiatives, stating, “This partnership is critical in our efforts to foster a drug-free campus environment. Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders, and it is essential we guide them towards a brighter, healthier future.”

The event featured a cultural parade and interactive sessions where students were encouraged to ask questions and share their thoughts on drug abuse within their communities. Organisers expressed hope that the initiative would spark meaningful conversations about drug awareness and prevention among the student body.

The collaborative effort between NDLEA, Face of Enterprising Management, and the Nigerian Engineering Students Association reflects a growing commitment to addressing the pressing issue of drug abuse in educational institutions.

As freshers embark on their academic journey, the NDLEA’s enlightening session serves as a crucial reminder of the significance of staying drug-free and advocating for a supportive community.
