The video, which has been widely circulated on social media platforms, features demonstrators accusing Nigerians in Ghana of involvement in cultism, kidnapping, prostitution, fraud, and other unlawful acts.
The protestors called on Ghanaian authorities to repatriate Nigerians whose behaviors they claim conflict with Ghanaian societal norms.
Responding to these allegations, Dabiri-Erewa condemned the sweeping condemnation of Nigerians living in Ghana.
“Nigerians are not criminals. They are good ambassadors wherever they find themselves. Those few who engage in illegal activities must be identified and face the appropriate sanctions,” she declared.
Highlighting the close ties between the two West African neighbors, Dabiri-Erewa emphasized the importance of peace and unity under the ECOWAS framework.
“Ghana and Nigeria are like Siamese twins; brothers who must continue to live harmoniously. Our regional integration depends on mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.”
She also cautioned against inflammatory language and urged Nigerians residing in Ghana to avoid confrontation or violence.
“This matter is being addressed at the highest diplomatic levels. We implore everyone to desist from inflammatory remarks that could escalate tensions.”
Addressing rumors circulating online about the destruction of Nigerian-owned shops and properties in Ghana, Dabiri-Erewa stated, “There is no verified evidence that Nigerians’ properties have been attacked. We must prevent any acts of reprisal that will heighten the situation.”
The NIDCOM chairperson commended both the Nigerian and Ghanaian High Commissioners for their cooperative efforts to defuse the crisis. She revealed that the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs has been in contact with Ghanaian officials, taking proactive steps to calm tensions.
In the statement signed by Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols at NIDCOM,Abdur-Rahman Balogun, underscored the commission’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Nigerians abroad during this delicate period.
