Niger communities condemn Boko Haram attack killing 4

The people of Lakpam community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State have raised the alarm over what they described as the “continued killing” of security agents and community members by terrorists suspected to be Boko Haram sects.

The terrorists, according to the community, launched a major onslaught on Thursday, July 24, 2025, killing four members of the Joint Security Taskforce during a routine patrol in the communities.

According to the spokesperson of the communities, Mallam Babangida Wassa Kudodo, the terrorists raided Dnasapa and Iburo communities simultaneously in an attack that lasted over two hours.

“It was yet another difficult day for the people of Dnasapa, Iburo, and surrounding villages in the Galkogo district in the Lakpma axis of Shiroro Local Government, as terrorists in their numbers stormed the villages and rained terror on the inhabitants,” he said.

He disclosed that during the invasion, the terrorists hoisted their flag in the communities and asked the people to cooperate with them.

“The encounter occurred as the security forces stationed at Galkogo were on a routine patrol in the area, and they came under heavy fire from the terrorists, including Boko Haram, whose flags were hoisted during the encounter,” he added.

Mallam Babangida confirmed that four members of the Joint Security Taskforce were killed during the encounter because the terrorists outnumbered them.

“Despite the bravery of the officers, they were outnumbered and outgunned. The encounter has left four officers dead and several others injured,” he said.

He described the loss of any security personnel, who are the last line of defence for these communities, as a monumental tragedy for the entire region.

“We therefore unequivocally condemn the killings and the barbaric attacks and call on governments at all levels to urgently address the issue of insecurity in the Lakpma axis and the entire Shiroro Local Government, which continues to suffer relentless attacks, with a view to bringing this madness to an end,” he stated.

The people also called for “immediate reinforcement of the ever-gallant officers stationed at Galkogo so that they can continue to give the terrorists some bloody noses.”
