Niger State Police Command has arrested over 60 suspected criminals in their hideouts and rescued 36 victims.
Commissioner of Police, Mr Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, said: “We have declared war against criminals. The command will continue to be proactive in tackling crimes and criminality in the environs. Some of the suspects have been charged to court while others are still under investigation.
“Operatives at the Central Police Station and vigilante members stormed Angwa-Roka, Kwari-Berger, Flamingo and Tudun under Maitumbi, Minna, went for sting operation and arrested 24 suspected thugs and armed robbers. We recovered one automatic pump action with two live cartridges, one bolt cutter, cutlasses, scissors, shisha pots and illicit substances.
“Police rescued 36 kidnap victims from a 10-man syndicate. The victims were being taken to different locations by the syndicate pretending to be travel agents and engaging in extortion of the victim. The victims are youth of different countries such as Mail, Senegal, Cote D’voire, Burkina Faso and Guinea without any document.
“Police arrested 18 suspects in Minna for various crimes bordering on robbery, causing hurt and illicit drug use. They were arrested at different locations including UBE Primary School, Samande and MJ Wushishi Estate, Minna.
“Five suspects were arrested in a hotel in Bida, over possession of human skull. One of the suspects confessed they exhumed the skull of his late maternal grandmother, aged 90, in a disparate attempt to settle debts exceeding N2million.”
Ellema urged the public to support the police with the needed cooperation in addressing security challenges.
