Recover arms, ammunition
By John Adams, Minna
It was a sigh of relief for the people of the Babanna community in the Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State as troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade killed an unspecified number of bandits in a major operation in the area.
The operation, which a local source from the community described as “very successful”, was conducted on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. by troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade, deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Babanna in Niger State.
The community source told our correspondent by phone that the terrorists were in their hundreds when they were struck by the army in their hideout and described the killing of the gunmen as “a sigh of relief” for the people of Babanna, a border town with the Benin Republic, and its environs.
Communities in the Borgu Local Government Area are among the most terrorised by bandits and other insurgents in recent times.
The new terrorist group, Lukarawa, in July announced their presence at the Kemenji community in the same Borgu Local Government Area of the state, killing four people, including a woman.
The group equally unleashed terror on the Luma community and burnt down all the security checkpoints, including all the security agents’ operational vehicles at the checkpoints leading to the Kainji National Park.
The group was alleged to have hoisted its flag at the Kainji National Park in the area.
