Aisha Hassan, a widow from Niger State, is demanding justice following the tragic death of her 27-year-old son, Sani Khalid, who an intoxicated police officer allegedly shot. The incident occurred in the Angwa-Kaje area of Maitumbi, Minna, where Khalid was resting at a friend’s tea stall.
Eyewitnesses reported that the officer, upon arriving at the scene, appeared visibly drunk and, without provocation, shot Khalid in the stomach. The victim, a butcher and footballer with Young Stars Football Club in Chanchaga Local Government Area, succumbed to his injuries.
The Niger State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the incident. The Commissioner of Police, Shawulu Ebenezer Dammam, directed the Divisional Police Officer of Maitumbi to identify and apprehend the officer involved. The command has assured the public of transparency and accountability in addressing the situation.
This tragic event has sparked outrage among residents and human rights organizations, who are calling for a thorough and impartial investigation to ensure justice for Khalid and his grieving family.
